What is Acne?

Acne is a kind of skin irritation that happens to some young people in their early puberty. its character is red botches by skin areas, pimples and scarring. The most affected areas are the face, chest and also back, for these have the highest levels of sebaceous follicles.

Although Acne is very common only in puberty and tends to disappear when they get twenties, it may continue into adult life in some cases.

The Cause of Acne

Acne is actually caused by quite a complex series of actions that begins with the increase of the produce of testosterone by girls or boys in puberty. This  stimulates an increased production of an oily matter called sebum by the sebaceous glands on the face, chest and also back. The actual red blotches, pimples, spots and scars related with Acne are caused by the inflammation of small sebaceous glands as the bacteria Propionebacterium gives out certain enzymes as it feeds on the increased sebum. These enzymes bring on the inflammatory reaction.

The acne severity tends to gradually increase in teenage years before typically culminating around the ages of 17-19 - when the testosterone, and therefore sebum, levels are at the highest. In almost all of cases the Acne tends to disappear after this and is normally gone by the time the sufferer reaches their mid-twenties. However, some cases have been known to affect the patient well into their forties.

What Make Acne Worse

Why acne can get worse? There are many reasons why the acne worse. Sufferers may be obsessed to touch, pick, squeeze or scratch at the spots and pimples caused by Acne, but this is a bad idea because it may spread the enzyme generating the inflammation further.

Acne sufferers are also encouraged to avoid wearing a lot of make-up and/or foundation. While it may be tempting to cover up affected areas with make-up, this may block the pores of the glands and result in a higher level of inflammation.

Recent research has found that some foods can also escalate the level of Acne. altogether, food with a high glycemic level can worse Acne - so it can be helpful to limit the amount of carbohydrates we consume.

Common Acne Treatments

While there is nothing that can absolutely cure Acne, there are treatments that can lessen its effects. Initially, washing the affected area every day (at least twice a day) with a cleanser can help to open up the pores and limit the level of inflammation. It is important to prevent the urge to scrub too hard though. Also, a healthy diet along with drinking an adequate amount of water and regularly exercise can also help with limiting the tendency of Acne.
